As a pediatric health care professional, I see the growing problem of childhood obesity, due in large part to sedentary lifestyles among students. Safe, fun group exercise is a healthy way to encourage movement and physical fitness in this age group, with such benefits as obesity control and encouraging a life-long love of fitness and physical activity.
Mrs. Koehlers? ?Morning Mile? program has motivated students to become more physically active while engaging them with peers. This brilliant program has been easily translated to many school districts, providing the benefits of enhanced physical activity for thousands of students.
The benefits of exercise go far beyond physical fitness. Numerous studies have affirmed the positive effects of exercise on improving children?s learning and attention in the classroom, as well, especially when it occurs just before classroom instruction.
The ?Morning Mile? program has remarkable benefits for children, and I am pleased to endorse Mrs. Koehlers? efforts.
